Have you ever had dreams that you would one day like to fulfil but at the moment are in the ‘too hard’ basket or you just don’t have time to do anything about them?
To turn a dream into a reality, it is important to set goals and work toward them. Dreams could be personal or business-based. An example of a ‘dream’ could be a better life or being able to communicate more effectively with your team. Communicating more effectively could even be a goal in itself to a ‘better life’ for everyone in your team.
Are you able to effectively share your dream with others? Is your team a high-performing team?
Impact of losing focus
Losing focus can lead to a loss of motivation and enthusiasm for a goal and in turn your dream. If goals are not re-visited on a regular basis, then it is easy to forget them. By having them at the forefront of your mind, you are more likely to achieve your goals.
Then there are those dreams that we have when we sleep. Could they possibly help us in achieving our goals?
Interestingly, I have recently been having vivid night-time dreams. Sometimes I remember them when I awake and sometimes they are a distant memory. However, I always remember the people that I have met in those dreams.
What I have found is that the people that I am encountering in my dreams are reminding me of activities that I have been putting off for ‘when I have more time’.
I have been very focused on certain goals in my business this year and in turn, I have neglected other goals that I had set. I began the year well but as time has progressed, I have not actively focused on those goals. Does that sound familiar?
How to stay focused
There are three simple steps to stay focused on achieving your dreams.
- Set goals
- Schedule actions for your goals into your diary
- Take action daily, weekly and monthly
Although these steps are ‘simple’, they are difficult to achieve when you are distracted by your day-to-day activities. It can feel like climbing a mountain. Yet, like climbing a mountain, it is important to approach your goals in a strategic way. The secret is making them part of what you do everyday. By having them at the forefront of your thoughts, they become part of your regular activities.
My night-time dreams have prompted me to take action. I have set my goals to do something about my dreams – both my night-time dreams and my dreams for the future – to make them a reality. Have you?
